About me

Patricia Coveney Sears

Qualifications:
Diploma in Genealogy, University College, Cork with Distinction (2022)
MSc in Genealogical, Palaeographic and Heraldic Studies with Distinction (2025)

I am a member of the Register of Qualified Genealogists and adhere to their professional code of conduct. I am registered with the Information Commisioner’s Office under the Data Protection Act.

As part of my MSc coursework, I created client reports, a building study and a migration etude, which traced the journey of two families across three continents during World War II. I also successfully completed the assignments in palaeography (transcribing old documents in English and Latin) and DNA testing.

My final dissertation made use of the Schull Association Loan Fund Records as a genealogical resource and examined the agency of non-elite women in 19th century West Cork.

Earlier research on Queen Catherine Court, a slum in East London, was published in The London Journal in 2024.

My personal research interests include London in general, East London in particular; Ireland, especially Co. Cork and Co. Fermanagh but I have successfully traced families from other areas of the UK and further afield. I have also given talks and written articles about historical buildings and their occupants, from manor houses to cottages, pubs and slums.

I look forward to helping you to learn more about your ancestors, wherever they lived.
